Archive Post from September 13, 2016It’s September (already?!), and that means fall is almost here: the kids are back in school, it’s getting dark just a tad bit earlier every night, and the leaves in California are starting to think about maybe turning a bit golden (maybe). But while the rest of the country is pulling sweaters and down jackets out of storage, we in the Bay Area know that early fall brings some of our best weather of the entire year. Which means: it’s time to get outside. In the spirit of squeezing every last drop of sunshine out of the Bay Area fall weather, our Trail Ride leaders Tim, Michael, Sherman and Adam have all shared their favorite Bay Area trails and state parks to ride on our sunny and *fog-free* fall days. Inspired? Grab your bike (or customize your own refurbished bike at our Re-Cyclery bike shop in San Rafael) and make sure you wave if you see them out there! Tim Long || Favorite Bay Area Trails: Anywhere! I don't really have a favorite trail...I love all of them! Lately I have been trying to simplify and just carve bigger chunks of time and go...see where the legs take me. My favorite is when I have a full day and have fresh legs from not having ridden for two-to-three days. I pack up a bunch of food and water, grab my single speed and go! Michael Rogers || Favorite Bay Area Trails: Annadel State Park , Santa Rosa One of my fave local spots is Annadel State Park in Santa Rosa. I just rode there today! This is the most Tahoe-like riding around. Plenty of technical rock gardens and challenging climbs... Sherman Yee || Favorite Bay Area Trails: Golden Gate Park, San Francisco "We take kids here often, and for us ride leaders it can be challenging to come up with different routes to keep it fresh and exciting. But Golden Gate Park is the place I first started riding in when I bought my first mountain bike some 25 years ago, while I was still living in the city. That fond memory of discovering something totally totally new that nobody really knew that much about, biking in the "backwoods" of the park, will not go away easily no matter how routine it is today leading rides. Adam Smith || Favorite Bay Area Trail: Tamarancho Loop Trail, Fairfax
Tamo is a classic mountain bike loop and a must-ride for anyone visiting the area who wants to ride the birthplace of the mountain bike. It winds its way through beautiful California scenery along technical single track and eventually takes you to the Endor Flow Trail, a thrilling purpose-built downhill run through majestic redwood trees. It's a must ride if you haven't yet. Make sure to buy a season or day pass though before you go!
