Bringing Biking To Youth on Their School Campus
Mobile Bike Program brings the joy of biking to kids at their school or after-school program site. We provide bikes, helmets, and tools, as well as our skilled instructor who has over 30 years of experience at Trips for Kids Bay Area. Over the course of 10 weeks, the Mobile Bike Program is designed to teach safe riding and bike maintenance skills to youth without requiring them to travel outside of their school or community. Classes are interactive and appropriate for all skill levels; Most students who participate in the program have never ridden a bike before. Students learn about the components and functions of a bike, basic bike repair techniques, and safe riding skills. Then they put it all into practice by riding around the school site and/or adjacent neighborhoods.
Our Mobile Bike Program operates year-round and usually takes place on a school campus. The course is designed to run over the course of a school semester, however, it's flexible and staff are able to customize the program to meet the individual needs of schools and non-profit partner agencies. The Mobile Bike Program results in students earning their own bikes. Students at St. Vincent's School for Boys take an exam after the completion of 10 weeks participation to earn their bike. In past years, students in Marin City have earned their own bike after completing our biking curriculum and riding fifty miles over a full semester. Our ultimate goal is to hone a students’ skills and inspire them to enjoy not only the health benefits of biking but also gain the sense of well-being and independence that riding a bike can bring. |
