Our Mission and Vision
Trips for Kids Bay Area helps kids from under-resourced communities discover the joy of biking, healthy living, and the outdoors. We believe every child—no matter their background—deserves the chance to grow, thrive, and reach their full potential.
Where the Journey Began

Marilyn Price, our Trips for Kids Bay Area founder, still remembers the first time she rode a bike. "My father let go of my seat, and there I was on my own," she said.
Years later, Marilyn realized the power of biking to change lives. During a 1986 mountain biking trip on Mount Tamalpais, Marilyn reached a view point where she could see all of San Francisco. Looking out at the city, she thought of the children she met while volunteering at a soup kitchen in San Rafael. And it hit her: She wanted to give them the same experience. "There's nothing like biking up a mountain and looking behind you to see all you've accomplished," she said. After that experience, Marilyn founded Trips for Kids Bay Area out of her home in Mill Valley. What began slowly as a few trips on the weekends with eleven bikes loaded on her Volvo station wagon has grown into a vast network with over 50 chapters located throughout North America. Since those early days, we have introduced over 40,000 bay area youth to the joys of mountain biking on local, state and national park trails. As a registered national 501c3 nonprofit, Trips for Kids Bay Area now offers Trail Rides, Mobile Bike Workshops, and Earn-A-Bike youth development programs. We also operate the Re-Cyclery Bike Shop which refurbishes and sells donated bikes, parts and accessories at affordable prices for our local community. |
