Archive Post from March 28th, 2017At the time of its founding in 1998, Trips for Kids had 5 riders. Today, TFK’s Trail Rides programs engage thousands of youth from across the country every year. As TFK’s longest running and most sought-after program, the Trail Rides program has a special place in our organization’s history and all of our hearts. We wanted to give you, our supporters, a chance to get to know our wonderful Trail Rides program better and hear from those who matter most - TFK kids. That’s why we are so excited to introduce our new TFK Stories from the Trail blog series and give our community a peek into what makes TFK trail rides so special. TFK Stories from the Trail coming to you from Point Pinole! We started last week with a beautiful ride along the shores of the San Pablo Bay at the Point Pinole Regional Shoreline. TFK riders completed an 8.7 mile loop that took them through the park’s myriad habitats and diverse ecosystems - from rolling grasslands, to mudflats, to tidal marsh. "I'm up for the challenge and all I can do is try" - Zeus, 16 years old They had a blast riding through the incredible landscape and had a chance to enjoy some of the most spectacular shoreline views to be had in this part of the North Bay. Building environmental awareness is a pillar of TFK’s mission, work and our Trail Rides Program. As the largest shoreline park in the entire Bay Area, Point Pinole Regional Shoreline offered incredible opportunities for TFK riders to explore, experience and be inspired by nature. The park’s 12 miles of trails are home to abundant wildlife and a diverse population of bird species, and TFK kids were excited to park their bikes, roll up their sleeves and give back to the environment with a good old fashioned beach cleanup. Be sure to come back for more TFK Stories from the Trail. Next up? Golden Gate Park!
